Become an OSI Science Camps and/or Scientific Expeditions Partner Organizer

For 35 years (1992), the NGO Objectif Sciences International has been developing a totally disruptive idea: enabling citizens of all ages to genuinely produce new scientific knowledge and contribute to projects that are useful to the world, while living a transformative experience.

Over the years, we have been able to give this concept a name: Participatory Science and Research for Impact, and a remarkable evolution has gradually taken place.

Today, associations, NGOs, agencies, tour operators, educational organizations, universities, laboratories, territories, residential centers, guides, scientific teams and local operators are appearing everywhere, capable of organizing very high-quality experiences themselves, with all the dimensions that this requires taking into account.

This is excellent news.

This now enables Objectif Sciences International to take a new step in its history: to focus increasingly on its role as an international Resource Platform, and to place its 35 years of experience, its methods, and its scientific, educational and institutional environment at the service of a much larger number of autonomous Organizers.

Do you already know how to organize a trip, a stay, an expedition, a discovery class, a field mission or a training program?

Do you have a destination, accommodation, a team, a territory, an audience, scientific expertise or simply a high-quality operational capacity?

Your next program could appear in the Scientific Expeditions catalog of the NGO Objectif Sciences International.

EXAMPLE: Do you already organize a canoe trip down a river? Together, let us distribute the scientific canoe river descent version, with non-invasive monitoring of beavers and dragonfly populations.

35 years after its creation, OSI is scaling up to a new level with its partners

For many years, in order to make these impossible projects possible on a daily basis, Objectif Sciences International had to help build almost the entire chain needed for true Participatory Science trips to exist: scientific projects, teams, pedagogy, organization of stays, logistics, participant recruitment, relations with territories and international development.

Today, the landscape has changed profoundly.

Thousands of actors now know how to organize the various components of these experiences excellently.

  • Agencies and tour operators know how to produce trips.
  • Associations and youth organizations know how to supervise audiences.
  • Universities and laboratories have research questions.
  • NGOs and field organizations know their territories.
  • Parks, reserves and local authorities have exceptional sites.
  • Accommodation providers know how to welcome groups.
  • Guides and local operators master the field.
  • Schools and training organizations mobilize their audiences.
  • Companies, foundations and institutions can contribute to funding and scaling up.

OSI’s mission can therefore evolve with all these actors.

Rather than continuing to do what its partners are now very good at doing, OSI is now focusing on strengthening, connecting, qualifying and giving visibility to all these capacities.

This is the role of the Objectif Sciences International Resource Platform.

→ Propose an experiential trip or stay in the OSI Catalog

You organize, and OSI provides the shared infrastructure.

You remain the Organizer of your operation.

You retain your identity, your teams, your profession, your expertise, your local presence, your suppliers, your partners and your way of operating.

The Objectif Sciences International Scientific Expeditions Platform intervenes where pooling genuinely brings value:

  • scientific structuring,
  • Participatory Science and Research engineering,
  • monitoring of the real research carried out during your operations,
  • project-based pedagogy,
  • proven methodologies, reference frameworks and quality standards,
  • scientific preparation of operations,
  • continuity before, during and after the fieldwork,
  • documentation and promotion of results,
  • relations with scientific partners,
  • community of practice, shared tools,
  • visibility within the OSI catalog,
  • use of the 35th anniversary brand of the Objectif Sciences International Scientific Expeditions
  • UN status, Major Stakeholder of UNEP, UN-Habitat, UNESCO, etc.,
  • international institutional environment,
  • connections with other Organizers and territories,
  • opportunities for cooperation and scaling up,
  • funding engineering and connection with partners,
  • support in creating new offers,
  • access to philanthropic and tax mechanisms that can be mobilized around the operations, such as tax reductions for travelers who take part as volunteers in your missions.

The ambition is therefore to enable more competent actors to work together, within a shared framework solid enough to grow Participatory Science and Research all over the world.

 Four major Product Departments

The operations you can propose may notably join one of Objectif Sciences International’s four major Product Departments:

  • Trips for Children, Teenagers, Families
Scientific stays, camps, language stays, family trips, nature, biodiversity, climate, technology, astronomy or other discipline programs enabling participants to contribute to genuine scientific processes.
  • Adult Trips
Scientific trips, expeditions, participatory missions, thematic stays, field programs, individual trips or organized groups combining experience, discovery, research and impact.
  • School Trips
Scientific discovery classes, school trips, field missions, multi-year programs, school projects and experiences enabling students to genuinely contribute to a scientific process.

You can come with an operation that is already ready… or simply with capacity

It is not at all necessary to have already created an “OSI Scientific Expedition.”

You simply need to propose to us:

  • a trip or tour that you already market,
  • an existing stay,
  • an adventure, a route, a destination,
  • accommodation, a residential center,
  • an educational team, guides or field teams,
  • a class or a network of schools,
  • a group of participants,
  • an expedition, a boat or means of transport,
  • a park, a reserve or a territory,
  • a laboratory or scientific program,
  • a research question, scientific equipment,
  • an educational activity,
  • a marketing capacity,
  • a distribution network,
  • local expertise,
  • logistical capacity,
  • or simply an excellent idea that you know how to make possible.

The Objectif Sciences International Scientific Expeditions platform is designed to connect capacities with one another that might otherwise never have met... and to multiply your travelers and your stays.

 An open platform

This opportunity is intended for all Organizers capable of directly carrying an operation or entering into partnership alongside it:

  • tour operators and travel agencies,
  • incoming agencies and DMCs,
  • educational and youth organizations,
  • associations and NGOs,
  • universities,
  • laboratories and research organizations,
  • schools and universities,
  • national and natural parks,
  • reserves and protected areas,
  • local authorities and governments,
  • tourism offices and destination organizations,
  • residential centers and accommodation providers,
  • guides and field operators,
  • boats and maritime operators,
  • transport and logistics actors,
  • site owners or managers,
  • providers of scientific material and equipment,
  • companies, foundations, funders,
  • professional networks,
  • international organizations,
  • and more generally any organization with a capacity useful to a Participatory Science operation.

A single operation can thus bring together several complementary partners without requiring each one to become a specialist in the others’ professions.

What the Organizer gains by joining the platform

For an Organizer, joining the OSI catalog does not simply mean adding a logo to a web page.

It means being able to place their operation within an already established international infrastructure.

In concrete terms, depending on the projects, this can bring:

  • A recognized shared identity
Your operation joins the history and universe of OSI Scientific Expeditions, developed over more than three decades.
  • A demanding scientific framework
Each project can be connected to a genuine scientific question, a research program or a documented need.
  • An upgrade of your products
An existing stay can become a more distinctive, more useful and stronger experience for its participants.
  • New audiences
Families, children, teenagers, adults, school groups, students, organized groups, companies, associations or other communities can be reached depending on the program.
  • New referral partners
Schools, universities, local authorities, companies, NGOs, foundations, institutions or networks can become partners or clients of the operations.
  • Better use of your existing capacities
Teams, accommodation, boats, vehicles, sites, laboratories, guides and equipment can host new operations or be better used outside the high season.
  • New revenue opportunities
New sessions, new groups, new destinations, scientific or logistical services and the annual renewal of programs can create additional activity.
  • Visibility in an international catalog
Your operations can be presented to audiences specifically looking for scientific and participatory trips and stays.
  • A scientific and institutional network
Your project can connect with scientists, universities, NGOs, territories and other partners present in the ecosystem.
  • Scientific continuity before and after the trip
Participant preparation, data collection, documentation, transfer, analysis and restitution can be articulated within a single system.
  • Shared tools and methods
You benefit from building blocks that would be long and costly to rebuild alone.
  • A community of practice
Organizers can learn from one another, share methods and develop joint operations.
  • A capacity for scaling up
The same scientific program can gradually be deployed across several dates, several territories or with several Organizers.
  • Connections with funding opportunities
Depending on the projects: scientific funding, patronage, foundations, territorial partnerships, companies or philanthropic mechanisms.
  • Mechanisms enabling some participants to finance their departure differently
When the applicable legal and tax conditions are met, certain operations can be articulated with donation, patronage or tax incentive mechanisms.

 And what you retain

Your profession.

  • A travel Organizer remains a travel organizer.
  • A laboratory remains responsible for its research.
  • An NGO retains its mission.
  • A territory retains its public policies.
  • An accommodation provider remains an accommodation provider.
  • A guide remains a specialist in their field.

The platform is there to make these skills work together without confusing them.

Each Organizer remains responsible in particular for their organization, teams, contracts, logistics, insurance, safety, suppliers and the obligations related to their activity.

OSI provides the shared architecture enabling this diversity of actors to jointly produce coherent Participatory Science and Research operations.

You already have everything you need to begin

You do not need to send us a complete file immediately.

A few minutes are enough.

Simply tell us:

  • who you are,
  • where you can operate,
  • the audiences you work with,
  • the capacities you already have,
  • and the first activity, destination, operation, site or idea that you would like to propose.

We can then identify with you the possible connections with:

  • the OSI Product Departments
    • Children/Teenagers/Families,
    • Adults,
    • School Trips,
    • Training courses...
  • the Participatory Research Programs,
  • scientific partners,
  • other Organizers,
  • territories,
  • audiences,
  • referral partners,
  • and, where relevant, financial partners.

For its 35th anniversary, OSI is opening a new chapter

We are deeply grateful to all the people and organizations who, for more than three decades, have contributed to making Participatory Science a field reality.

The current development of the sector is precisely what we hoped to see happen.

It now enables OSI to do less in place of others, and more with them.

Our ambition for the coming years is therefore simple:

to enable a growing number of autonomous Organizers, all over the world, to offer high-quality scientific experiences that are useful to participants, useful to territories and useful to research.

If you already have part of this capacity, we would like to discover what we can build together.

Free and non-binding expression of interest.

Present your organization to us and the first capacity that you would like to integrate into or connect to the platform.
