Hackathon – Participatory Science for the Ocean

A high-level training and a competition to turn your ideas into concrete projects
Objectif Sciences International, in partnership with Université Côte d’Azur, the Alliance Française of Nice, the City and Metropolis of Nice Côte d’Azur, and numerous stakeholders in sustainable development and citizen science, invites you to take part in a unique event:
the Hackathon – Participatory Science for the Ocean, an intensive co-creation space combining training, competition, and project incubation for impact.

10 afternoons of collective intelligence to imagine, structure, and launch participatory science projects serving the Ocean and the Sustainable Development Goals.

 Objectives of the Hackathon

  • Learn how to build a participatory research Participatory Research see : http://www.voyages-scientifiques.com project or an educational scientific expedition
  • Get introduced to project-based learning and education through action
  • Collaborate in teams on concrete challenges related to the Ocean
  • Present your project within the framework of the UN World Ocean Conference
  • Take part in the Terra Scientifica Competition to bring your ideas to the international stage

 For Whom?

This Hackathon is open to all motivated profiles, with no technical prerequisites:

  • Teachers from primary to higher education
  • Students, PhD candidates, researchers
  • Nature, science, sports, arts, and socio-cultural facilitators
  • Elected officials and local stakeholders
  • Tour guides, sustainable tourism professionals
  • Engineers, innovators, impact entrepreneurs
  • Committed youth and adults, individually or in teams

 Content and Methodology

  • Learning by doing: workshops, mentoring, prototyping
  • Impact ideation: start from a dream or real-life challenge, and turn it into a structured project
  • Complete design: scientific, pedagogical, logistical, legal, and budgetary aspects
  • Collaborative work: in interdisciplinary teams
  • Final presentation: your projects will be publicly presented at the UN Conference

Each participant leaves with:

  • A project ready for implementation
  • Reusable tools
  • A recognized certification
  • A network of strategic partners
  • The possibility of post-hackathon support

 Competition: In the Footsteps of Darwin and Lapérouse

Alongside the Hackathon, take part in the major international participatory scientific travel competition, open to all ages, profiles, and nationalities.

  • Imagine an exploratory journey combining science, discovery, sustainability, and innovation.
  • The best projects will be awarded, supported, and brought to life thanks to the Terra Scientifica forum’s partners.

  • Possible Futures

4 age categories: 7–10 years, 11–15 years, 16–18 years, 18 years and older.
